Spotters

TORNADOLERT - operation, installation, and maintenance in fire houses and police stations.

TORNADOLERT in police and fire stations would improve tornado reporting

Police and fire department personnel are trained to be tornado spotters as part of their regular duties. Two  cost effective ways TORNADOLERT can significantly improve overall tornado reporting are:
  1. Place a TORNADOLERT in every 24 hour manned police and fire station; and
  2. Place a TORNADOLERT MV in each police car on neighborhood patrol.

Because police and fire stations are networked, not only would tornado threats be more quickly and reliably reported to the National Weather Service but local tornado sirens could be activated sooner.
